ALFISO MOLDABLES/MASTICS ALFISO Mastics are mixtures of refractory fibers, silica binders, and fillers with a sticky consistency, providing a hard surfaced, low thermal conductivity insulation after drying. The mixtures are ideal for applications such as cast shapes, coatings, metal stud protection (as in ceramic cup-lock anchors), and for patching refractory cracks and fissures. The Mastics are possible to be dried at room temperature; but depending on thickness, may require an extended time. Heating and drying by forced air is recommended. Ventilation should be provided during drying to exhaust organic fumes resulting from vaporization of certain organic agents. WORKING INFORMATION ALFISO Mastics/Moldables can be installed with plastic gloves, trowels, spatulas or caulking gun. It is easily smoothed to the desired contour by water wetting the forming tool and molding to shape. Immediately firing to its use temperature is available for small mass. For larger masses, forced drying at 90-150ºC with adequate ventilation is recommended. Pails should be kept sealed to avoid hardening.
